Leila Kate Benton was born in Wilson County, Texas on 30 Nov 1898 and died in San Antonio, Bexar, Texas on 19 Jul 1970. She was the daughter of John Benton and Malissa Leila Hodges Benton.

She married Oran Wesley Short. They had five children:

Katherine Helen Short;

Kenneth Oran Short;

Sarah Ann Short who married Jack Doyle Hearn;

Wesley William Short; and

Leila Sue Short (1939 - living) who married Frankie Joe Parsons.
